This one took a bit of time. Real life got in the way and sapped my motivation to sit down and write. I'm not entirely happy with this chapter, but at least I got something done.

Day 17: Illicit News in the Broadsheets
Today was a quiet day. I had no plans really, and the letter I recieved yesterday still has me in a sour mood. I spent some time brushing Carp and seeing he was tended to. Granny let me move him into a ramshackle barn she had out back. It's not as fancy as the stable, but I offered to fix it up for her. Rin took a liking to carp almost immediately, and I think he to her. Or at least to the apple she fed him when she thought I wasn't looking.
To occupy my time in the afternoon, I read something called The Broad Sheets, it's a scroll that comes three times a day, mostly detailing things going on in the city and from lands further out. Granny doesn't read them, but likes their utility in the outhouse. They had an interesting article detailing the city watch breaking up a smuggling ring the other day. Apparently they were shipping something called Deep Crystal without a permit. It was such a big deal even the preservers got involved with the investigation. The one who wrote the story seems to think that maybe even some high ranking city officials were involved.
I wonder how this might affect the timeline for my own dealings with the court. I hope the matter gets resolved quickly, I am anxious to get back to my travels.
