I plan on actually referencing this specific chapter later in the D&D game I'm playing Jon in. My idea for Jon is he comes from a heroic sort of culture where boasting is a common form of entertainment. He'll be regaling his companions about the time he faced off against several well armed thugs with a mere stick.

Day 12: Attacked in the Park

This evening Rin and I were attacked by a group of common thugs. I had taken the girl out for an afternoon in the market, I wanted to get her some proper clothes to wear. Something better than the sack cloth she'd been wearing. She's warmed up to me, though I still sense some fear from her. She was downright shocked when I told her to choose her outfit.

After our purchasing had been completed, we were returning to the inn, when the gang attacked us. At first I thought they were attempting to rob us, but it quickly became apparent that they were sent by the Sulaco family to re-capture Rin.

I was not about to allow them to kidnap what I had rightfully stolen, so I sent Rin up a nearby tree, then I prepared for a fight. I had been feeling rather confident and frankly safe in the city, so I had no proper weapon to speak of. But the same tree that provided Rin some safety, also supplied me with a weapon, in the form of a large and sturdy branch that I was able to break off and use like a crude club.

Common street thugs were no match for a warrior of my ability, and I sent them fleeing with ease. Criminal types really are cowards. However, Rin was so impressed at the feat, that she regaled Granny with a dramatic reenactment when we returned to the inn. Granny responded that she "doesn't go in for that sort of hero business."

She still thinks that there will be more trouble from the Sulacos, and I am inclined to agree.
