Die Roll: 2
Cards: 5 Clubs 9 Spades
Prompts: Intriguing, Coffee in an open air Cafe
I was not sure what to do with this one at first, in my mind Jon is not the type of person to frequent a cafe, and I had trouble thinking of something he'd find intriguing. Figuring he was from northern lands, the coffee itself might be the interesting thing to him, so I went with that, and tried to add a bit of humor in his reaction.

InterestingVILE DrinkI have spent much of the past few days in the docks district, lending out my services to a couple of fishing vessels, mending some of their nets. It's tedious work, but I find it relaxing in it's own way, and it gives me something to occupy myself with while I await the merchant vessel that can carry me further along my journey.
This evening on my return to the inn, I stopped by one of the small eating establishments in the city. It is one of the kind that have tables out in the open where you can enjoy a meal in the fresh air. This one had a selection of sweet pastries for sale, and I thought I might buy some for Rin and Granny.
While the owner was wrapping up my purchase, I noticed a curious but pleasing smell coming from a sort of ornate tea pot they had behind the counter. When I asked about it, they explained that it was something called 'co-fee', a drink from their homeland and offered to let me try some. He explained that it is made by grinding certain types of seeds that have been roasted over a fire, and then boiling the ground seeds in water.
The resulting drink was very black in color, and so hot that it almost burned my tongue. The flavor was actually quite bitter, but in a pleasant way. I thanked the shop keeper for the taste, and returned to the inn. Granny didn't much care for the sweets, but Rin was appreciative of them. She's still nervous about her rescue, and stays on me whenever I am at the inn. I have heard her at night having terrible nightmares. It makes me wish that I had finished off all of her tormentors.
P.S. Coffee is a vile substance that is not in any way fit for consumption by man. I have not yet been able to sleep in spite of exhaustion, and I have spent much of the night re-stocking granny's wood pile and mending sheets and now dawn is upon me.
